Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where can I find the source data?
  • Why are names and addresses masked out?
Though this information is in the public record, it isn't currently indexed in any search engines. Keeners masks names and addresses out in respect of both the arrested and possible victims on location. While the law differentiates between the accused and the convicted, a potential employer may not - more information.
  • How accurate is the blotter database?
The short answer is that our database is very accurate. That said, some events are not imported correctly and are identified with a category of "None". At last count these events comprised less than 1/2 of a percent of all activity. As development progresses, the import may be improved.
  • How accurate is the map?
The geocoding on the map represents a best guess approximation and is intended to be viewed in terms of location trends as opposed to on a per-event basis. If an event is logged as "West St.", it may show up somewhere along West St., but not at the exact location of the event.
  • I see a mistake, can you fix it?
Corrections to a particular event must be made through the official blotter as published by the Keene Police Department within 3 days of the event to get picked up. No changes will be made that do not reflect the officially published logs.
  • What is the algorithm used to compute badges awarded to officers?
The Super Trooper badge is given to the Officer handling the most calls in the following categories over 30 days: SEX OFFENSES, HARASSMENT, ASSAULT, CRIMINAL THREATENING, STALKING, DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE, DISTURBANCE, KEEP THE PEACE, DECEASED PERSON, SUICIDE ATTEMPT OR THREAT. The Diplomat is awarded for the most initiated assistance within the following categories: DISABLED MV, ASSIST CITIZEN, ASSIST CITIZEN/MOTORIST.
  • Why are arrests not factored for the Super Trooper badge?
Arrests are a two way street - an arrest for a charge that is ultimately thrown out of court is a waste of time and money for the court, the accused, and the city of Keene. Since the blotter is not aware of the ultimate outcome in court, arrests are not factored into the algorithm.
